Abstract

Chronic venous ulcers (CVUs) are a significant health concern, often resulting in prolonged disability and poor quality of life for affected individuals. Compression therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for venous ulcers, with the four-layer compression bandage (4LCB) being one of the most commonly utilized methods. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of four-layer compression bandaging in the management of chronic venous ulcers. A total of 100 patients with confirmed CVUs were included in the study, and they received four-layer compression bandaging for a period of 12 weeks. The primary outcome measures included ulcer healing rate, reduction in ulcer size, and improvement in patient-reported pain levels. Secondary outcomes involved the assessment of complications and the overall patient satisfaction with the treatment. Results indicated a significant reduction in ulcer size (average reduction of 60%) and improvement in healing rates (72% healed by the end of the study). Furthermore, patients reported a significant reduction in pain and an improvement in the quality of life. The study concludes that four-layer compression bandaging is an effective and well-tolerated treatment option for chronic venous ulcers, providing substantial benefits in terms of ulcer healing, pain reduction, and patient satisfaction.
